Ategi celebrates national recognition with multiple award nominations!

What a brilliant year it’s been for Ategi! Our incredible team has continued to shine in the world of disability and social care, and we’re thrilled to announce we’ve been named finalists in three major awards, celebrating the heart, creativity, and impact behind everything we do.

Ategi’s Supported Living team has been shortlisted for the Supported Housing Award, recognising their life-changing work helping people with learning disabilities and autism live independently and with dignity. The team recently received an “Excellent” rating from Care Inspectorate Wales; a reflection of their dedication and person-centred approach. One powerful example is Trevor, a man who once lived in isolation and distress. Through patient, tailored support that embraced his passions from golf to American culture. Trevor is now thriving, independent, and proud of his home and identity. It’s stories like his that show the impact of person-led support.

We’re also delighted to celebrate Shared Lives carer, Liz Gray, who has been recognised as a finalist for the Making a Difference Award, and it’s easy to see why. Liz is a Shared Lives carer whose tireless dedication has touched hundreds of lives. In addition to supporting her son Stephen, who has complex needs, Liz opens her home to others and pioneers' projects that bring inclusion to life. She co-founded Warmley Wheelers, offering adapted bikes to people with disabilities, and leads the Music Train project, which has hosted nearly 600 inclusive music events across 12 venues. Liz’s warmth, creativity, and community spirit embody what it means to truly make a difference.

And there’s more to celebrate! If you hadn’t already heard Ategi’s Support Circles project was a finalist in the recent Accolades Awards, recognising our strengths-based, community-driven approach. Led by the brilliant Matthew Jones, Support Circles brings people together through peer-led planning, fun trips, and friendship-building activities. It’s all about helping individuals grow in confidence, build social networks, and thrive in ways that matter to them. Whether it’s Emma proudly sharing her love of chocolate biscuits, or Mark sneaking in extra-long bus rides just to stay connected the impact is real, personal, and profound.

These nominations are a testament to the power of people our brilliant staff, devoted volunteers, inspiring individuals we support, and the generous funders who help make it all possible, including the National Lottery Awards for All and the Albert Gubay Fund.

The Learning Disability Awards will be announced on 4th July, but as far as we’re concerned we're already winners.

Every story, from Liz’s music sessions to the strength of our Support Circles and the life-changing daily care of our Supported Living team, reflects Ategi’s passion for inclusion, independence, and community. We’re proud, grateful, and fingers crossed hopeful as we await the results!
