Ty Cornel & Gary
Gary came to Ty Cornel in June 2022 after being a victim of cuckooing. A gang from London befriended him and took over his flat in order to sell drugs.
They financially exploited him and supplied him with crack cocaine, he soon became addicted. His life spiralled out of control and he became depressed, lost a lot of weight and had no interest in life itself.
Gary's flat became uninhabitable and Social Services were made aware of the squalid conditions he was living in.
It was only then that it became apparent exactly what was going on. Following this Gary was moved straight into Ty Cornel.
He was very withdrawn when he first came to Ty Cornel, showing signs of psychosis due to his drug use and having suicidal tendencies. The amazing team at Ty Cornel supported Gary to have a mental health assessment at the Hamadryadd Centre where he was diagnosed with drug induced psychosis and paranoia.
It was a difficult time for Gary but with the intense support from the staff at Ty Cornel, Gary started to trust the staff and build a healthy rapport.
Gary now takes pride in his appearance and enjoys participating in a number of activities. He is currently a member of a local gym called Fighting Homelessness, where he has his own personal trainer. He enjoys his weekly session with Pedal Power at Sofia Gardens and has also started to engage with Rubicon Dance Classes. This is a fun, social dance class that takes place every week at Ty Cornel. Its purpose is to increase social interaction and improve mobility and mental well-being.
Gary has not only built good relationships with the team at Ty Cornel, he has also built strong friendships with his fellow tenants
Gary states that he has never felt so content and feels that he has finally found his forever home at Ty Cornel.
