From Shared Lives to University

JJ’s Journey Towards Independence

For JJ, the journey towards greater independence has been built on a strong and lasting relationship with his Shared Lives carer.

JJ has lived with his Shared Lives carer since he was a young child. At 18, he made the transition from foster care into Shared Lives, providing continuity and stability as he moved into adulthood.

With the encouragement and ongoing support of his carer, JJ has continued to work towards his goals and build confidence in his abilities. One of his ambitions was to successfully complete his college course and take the next step towards higher education.

He has now achieved that goal.

After successfully completing his college course, JJ was offered places at three universities – Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea. After considering his options, he chose to accept a place at the University of Bristol, where he will study for a Bachelor’s degree in IT.

For JJ, choosing to study at Bristol represents much more than starting university. It is an exciting next step in his journey towards becoming more independent and shaping his own future.

His success is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when people are supported to pursue their ambitions, make their own choices and build the confidence to take on new challenges.

As JJ prepares to begin university, he can look forward to an exciting new chapter – with the support of his Shared Lives carer helping him to take the next steps towards the future he wants.

At Ategi, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live their life, their way – and JJ’s story shows just how far that journey can take you.
